This is the 4th time is eaten here, and each time the the food was excellent, including tonight. All servers were average in past but the one tonight was way less than par. Obvious business meeting with 1k potential and was slow in response, acted so hastily on everything else we had to have repeated numerous times. Was hoping clients would be impressed with nice outdoor ambiance, great food, and exceptional service I expected, but service well below what was expected .

I set up a private Birthday Brunch/Wedding Proposal for my now Fiancee which included all age groups. We were a party of 25 and Kathy and her staff couldn't have done a better job! We rented out one of the private rooms directly off of the patio with amazing views and privacy for this very special day. It went off perfectly! The food was great and they made French Toast for the kids as opposed to the Standard Breakfast for the adults...a BIG hit! The presentation and service were perfect! Thank you again Kathy and Julia!

Went to meet friends we hadn't seen in years so we were in no rush. I had read the reviews of the slow service and the food was good. We'll took almost an hour to get food. Got several excuses about big parties and the like. Watched another table get up and ask was there a kitchen problem and got same kinda of answers. They weren't packed but someone should take serious the comments about slow slow service

The food overall is quite good here. It's the only reason we come back. The service on the other hand is more often lacking. We have rarely had a memorable or pleasurable experience due to our servers. It seems like there's a very high turnover on that end. If you eat here, enjoy the food and be prepared for service on the level of Denny's. Actually, at Denny's, they protectively refill your drinks. You don't have to continually remind them to bring things you've ordered either.

Market Street is always a pretty chill experience, but this location is in my opinion, far and away better. It's all nestled up there in the mountains, with large windows overlooking the creek. I just loved it. I just came for lunch and the food is always pretty good albeit expensive. I don't know what the poor reviews are expecting honestly. I've always been very content after going to Market Street. Just be prepared to rip out the wallet is all.

Love the oysters here! So good. We've tried a few other dishes and never been disappointed. The customer service is always fantastic. Highly recommend this place.

I can't understand why this restaurant has such low reviews, but read this keeping in mind I've only been here once. But my friend, a Salt Lake City local loves it and eats here all the time. I really enjoyed the location of this restaurant, nestled in the mountains. We parked in the overflow lot which meant we had to walk over a rope bridge extended over a babbling river to get to the restaurant. The menu was seafood centered and there were many raw and cooked choices. I started with a selection of raw oysters and enjoyed the ahi tuna afterwards. For dessert I received a huge piece of layered chocolate cake. Everything was delicious. I would compare this restaurant to a bonefish or a Leagle seafoods, so there are more upscale places. But compared to these restaurants Market Street Grill is more then comparable. The service was good as well. When we needed a bigger table for the four of us he moved us, no problem and patiently took out picture as we struck a couple poses. The server also reccommended a white wine for us and we wasted no time dispatching the soft, dry, fruity liquid during dinner. By the way, after that wine my friend refused to walk back across the rope bridge with us. "You'll just wait until I'm in the middle & shake it." They say. WHO ME? Come on! It's more FUN that way!! She doesn't trust me and we end up bringing the car around to pick her up. Oh, well, not everyone knows how to have a good time. Anyway, as previously mentioned, I've only been once, so maybe Market Street Grill was just having a good night, but if I went back to Salt Lake I would definitely visit again.

i came here with a friend and her 12-year-old son for dinner. it was a monday night and pretty busy, so we actually had to wait for about 15 minutes before a table opened up. as we were going through the menu, i discovered why they were so busy. they have three early bird specials before 7 PM. you can get the prime rib with a side, salad or chowder, and a choice of ice cream or mini creme brulee, for only $25! same deal with fish and chips or salmon for $20. not a bad deal. my friend got the prime rib for herself and her son to share and i chose the salmon. we started off with a pound of shrimp and a dozen oysters to share. our server was so sweet and provided excellent service. i want to say her name was brenda. she came at exactly the right times to check in and had such a genuine personality. she kept our wine and water glasses filled and always kept our table cleared of plates. when she brought out the clam chowder for my friend, she had already split it into two bowls, for her and her son. that was very thoughtful and made it easier for them. my friend and her son enjoyed their prime rib. i loved my salmon and enjoyed every bite. it was light and full of lemon flavor! for dessert we got the mini creme brulee, ice cream, and my personal favorite, the sabayon. we ended up dining there for almost 3 hours and time just flew. we never felt rushed by brenda and she made sure we were taken care of throughout the night.

When you pay the prices that Market Street charges, you expect good service. The food has always been consistency good, not great. the service has always had an "us against them" feel. Today however, the server was down right unprofessional and immature. I would like to give 3 stars because atmosphere and lunch was very tasty today, but, taking my company dinner, from last week into consideration, where the server was clearly high, I just can't give this location any more than two stars. Today, The server was prompt, but "in your face" prompt. When I asked how he knew which wine was which, he literally pushed my wine in my face to show me the color difference. But, the nice afternoon was almost spoiled by his strange behavior, as if he wanted us to leave, as if his shift was ending. As we lingered over our after lunch wine, he hovered around us picking at our table, and even taking awAy bread we were still working on. He then, reached into my personal space, to grab a fork? and elbowed me in the nose. No apology, just waited in front of us until we got out our payment out. Thinking, he got what he wanted, we went back to enjoying our conversation, he came back rather quickly, and no exaggeration, he stood there and waited for us to give him his tip. Seeing that he was not leaving our space, until we produced a tip, I immediately pulled out some cash. Upon giving him what was close to a 18% tip, he said, "oh, is this for me"? Sarcastically, as if I offended him.. Reassuring myself, that I didn't jip him out of decent tip, he peered at me very uncomfortably, as if he was talking about us to the fellow servers. This was so weird. Never have I had a server like this. Upon thing to my friend who was with me, she asked if I noticed our server be anxious to get us out of there, as if he had a personal vendetta against us? He indeed ruined a nice lunch. Not sure what his problem is/was. But, I just have never had that kind of service anywhere but here. Never has service here been fantastic, but the last few times have been down right awkward. To bad service sucks . Can't beat atmosphere.

Starting off with the appetizers, I had the clam chowder. In my opinion, it was a pretty big soup portion to be an appetizer, as it filled me up very quickly. Next, I had the shrimp cocktail, the presentation wasn't superb and it was very small in size, portion wise and even shrimp wise. I ordered the Maryland Crab Cakes which came with french fries and vegetables. I thought that it was good; however, by the time I had already received the main course, I was already full. In conclusion, the restaurant was good, but not great or anything really special or over the top even though they were a pretty pricey restaurant.

It's on the pricey range but it's the only place to get descent, not frozen tasting seafoods. They serve the best clam chowder soup.

We visited Market Street last Thursday (9/10/2015) and it was a pleasant experience. Meal was excellent. Our party ordered a variety of entrees and all of us commented how much we enjoyed our meals. Our server was prompt and efficient. Only complaint is lack of parking close to the restaurant. But this is a small complaint and I recommend Market Street.

Years ago I worked for Market Street and ended up having a pretty terrible experience. That being said, I remembered the food being pretty decent, albeit over priced. For that reason I avoided going back for many years until the BF's family had a birthday dinner there. We went to the Cottonwood Heights location which was beautiful! We were able to sit out on the patio which is perched above a Creek and lots of trees. Aside from the view, there isn't a whole lot of good I can say. We waited a really long time for our sever, our drinks, our food, our dessert, and our checks. We weren't in a particular hurry so we didn't get upset about it. As for the food, I think the sourdough bread was my favorite part (even though after the first loaf was devoured we were never asked if we wanted more. I can't remember if it is policy not to ask if you want more so I let it slide, I probably don't need the extra carbs anyway). Expensive. Everything is expensive. Even the appetizers are expensive. I figured I would save us a few bucks and just order some crab cakes, which turned out to be tiny. ... $15 later I was less than full or pleased. My boyfriend ordered the prime rib special. The waiter offered us a variety of sides options and we opted for the chessey potatoes. Would have been nice for him to mention that those were an almost $5 up charge. The prime rib was overcooked and flavorless. The free Carmel ice-cream was lovely. We won't be back if we can help it. Maybe you will have better luck.

I feel like Market Street Grill is like The Emperor's New Clothes of restaurants. People flock to the restaurant and pay hefty prices for terrible food. I've been to three different locations for others' birthdays and every time, every location serves food that tastes premade, frozen, thawed, and reheated. The appetizers, fish, and desserts have all tasted prepackaged and mediocre at best. Don't waste your money! Honestly, they have better fish at Costco in the frozen food section.

Been having my breakfast here for almost a month now and this place was pretty decent when it comes to their breakfast food. This place serves the finely cooked eggs benedict. The ambiance on this place every morning was also perfect. Warm and has that good energetic vibe that will you awake when you are half asleep. I also tried their fruit tart here once, I never expecred it to be that good. Unfortunately, they don't allow take out.

It's such a beautiful restaurant. Wide open, unique, a terrific upstairs and downstairs and tucked back by the mountains there. It's too bad the food doesn't seem to meet the ambiance. I need to state first off that I *want* to rave about Market Street. I *want* to recommend them to everyone. I *want* to have an amazing experience there and tell all my friends to go there right now. So this comes from a place of love. But you've got to step it up in the food department. At a recent lunch I ordered a seared tuna special. I understand that stuff isn't cheap, but when I pay $27 for a single lunch entree, I really do it in full faith that there will be something special on the plate. Unfortunately, it was two pretty average (although delightfully tender) pieces of tuna, some rice lacking for flavor, and three asparagus spears. To be fair, the asparagus was as big around as a piece of PVC, but also to be fair that never makes for tender asparagus. We also had a shrimp scampi, and each one was like a little wrestling match. Again, the seafood was quality, but the treatment was overcooked which made the texture unforgiving. I've had the key lime pie before, so I ordered a slice in the hopes of ending on a sweet note. At $7 bucks a slice, you really hope it's topnotch. My heart sank when I could barely get my fork through it. Although the taste was good, it was frozen nearly solid. The space is so amazing. It's nautical/marine themed, it's chic, it's not pretentious or gimmicky. The setting couldn't be better. The top deck. The downstairs. You're looking right at the mountains. And they're flying in good fish. But it just feels like they're relying on all those things to carry things through, rather than pressing for excellence in all areas, especially the kitchen. Excellence is in the details, and I truly believe that Market Street has the potential to be most excellent. Like, one of Utah's very very best restaurants. The ingredients are all there. It's so frustrating to see those details dismissed and to have an autopilot feeling throughout. I paid $70 for a lunch for two. When things are firing on all pistons and there is creativity in the kitchen, I think they can get away with that in the right crowds. But right now, I can't recommend them to anyone. It's just not worth it. Please, Market Street. Listen to your diners. I'm not the only one. We lament the state of things now and we so desperately desire you to live up to the potential that everyone sees--that perhaps you once fulfilled. Turn it up. Start remembering the little things. Don't re-invent the wheel (or the menu), just take the ingredients you have and execute them in the way that the human palate demands. You can do it! We're on your side!

I rather go to the Oyster bar next door but this place has beautiful views looking over the creek and mountains. Service is always slow which seems odd because most of the servers are either wandering around trying to look busy or are actually doing side work but isn't how you make money is the service you provide?? The food is the same fresh and tasty. Seems the hostess doesnt know what server is on or off so you could have a server or not.

We have been to Market Street Grill for years. We used to go whenever no one wanted to cook dinner. With Today's price, we still go but not whenever no one wants to cook. For last two times, we sat at the counter because the the long waiting time. We got wonderful servers both times. A few months back I almost gave up on Market Street Grill (Cottonwoof Heights location) because the services was uneven and the food was just so so. However these last two times, not only we had very good servers but food was good. The fresh grilled halibut was wonderful. Halibut must be running now. We certainly highly recommend it. The early bird prime rib of beef has returned as my favorite again. Try to have brown rice with it. Their brown rice was very good. I had a chance to have snap peas and brown rice side by side. The rice was a+, the snap peas was an A-. The only issue I had was spinach salad had too much dressing. I forgot to ask for less dressing. U

I've been coming here for years. Love the halibut and crab week. My favorite is the market street salad with a side of their delicious fries. The crab omelette is a brunch must. The reason I give it a 3 is the hit and miss service. It can be amazing and it can be awful. Usually it is good.

I always enjoy seafood, and market street is one of the few options in salt lake. However, every time I come to the cottonwood location, I am severely disappointed with the service. The last visit, our table ordered food, and an appetizer. The salads came out first, before anything. After sitting for 40 minutes ( no exaggeration) our waiter told us he had forgotten to put our order in. We then had to ask about the appetizer, which he also forgotten. His only response was, "are you in a hurry?" Majorly disappointing

Came here for a catered luncheon. The outside looks much nicer than the inside. The are in a room that had a divider in it. The neighboring luncheon speaker could easily be heard in our room. The inside of the building could use a little upkeep. The tables were well presented but small and the chair were very upright and not too comfortable. The food was standard- steak, fish, potatoes, carrots and green beans. I really enjoyed the raspberry lemonade and the Creme brûlée for dessert. The service was also very friendly and at tentative.

For me this place is OK. We had a large group and they handled service good... A bit rushed but good. I ordered the halibut with avocado and shrimp.. It was way smaller fish portion than table mates and was kind of dry. The apps were OK.. Calamari sucked.. Small dry rings and not hot. The stuffed mushrooms were average at best... Not cooked all the way. Many places in SLC to go and I'm not in a hurry to come back. Not horrible but not great.

My friend and I had lunch there today. The food was ok. We had the clam chowder and a seafood Cobb salad. The crab in the salad was not good. Our waiter was down right rude. First I ordered a diet coke which he forgot and when I asked him about it said he was unaware I had ordered a diet coke. Also when ordered our salad we had told him we wanted to share one. He said we could order half salads. But honestly i was sure that would still be more food than we wanted so we said no we would just share. When he brought our salad to prepare table side he brought us only one plate seriously!!!! Then we had to ask for an extra plate which was much smaller. I was not happy and for the price I could go elsewhere for better service.

Steer clear of this place. My family and I decided to try this place on a recent visit to SLC. As it seemed to be a recommended seafood restaurant. Being from Seattle I was hesitant to give it a shot. But figured what the hell. First let me say the service was very poor. It took us over an hour to get our food. The servers never checked on us or explained what the hold up was. The food was disgusting and over priced. For example the steak was completely burnt to the point it was inedible. The chowder was cold. And the lobster was over cooked. Needless to say I was very disappointed in this place and would never go back. If I could give it 0 stars I would.

In the past, my family and I have really enjoyed the Sunday Brunch at Market Street. The eggs benedict is a favorite and I really like the steak and eggs. My family will come here before 10am to get the "early-bird" special. We have never been disappointed in the service until recently. On our last visit, we were seated at our table 20 minutes before 10am and had to wait a very long time to order. By the time our server returned to take our orders it was 10:05 and we were told we would not receive the "early-bird" special. I really think they should have allowed us to receive the special, especially since we were waiting for our server!!! My husband was pretty upset and wanted to leave but I convinced him to stay. The food is still tasty but unfortunately the service is just too poor. The number of stars for this review reflects the service. Our family will no longer return to this location.

Rarely disappoints! Good food DOES cost more, and is harder to make properly! I love market street - they would get another star if only they had a "REAL" maple syrup option for their pancakes.. Their cod fish and chips are the best quality in town. Great staff and service. Name tags, classy interiors, and kept REALLY CLEAN!

This used to be a five star restaurant. I've eaten here and at the downtown, and south Jordan locations for years. But this cottonwood location has slipped drastically. The last two times I've been there, both in the last 3 months (as of May 2015) I called ahead to make sure they had plenty of prime rib, my favorite at my favorite restaurant. And both times when we got their 15 minutes later, they said they we out! Most recently we were seated and ordering at about 7:45. I was pretty ticked off. Fool me twice!! So I ordered stake, and the outside was burned badly, inside ok, and other food just Ok. Waitress was good not great like typical. Crab mushroom good, not delicious like they used to be. I'm not going to this location any more. Disappointing, because it's close to where I live.

The wait was very long but our food was very good, our server Kelly was very nice. However, the reason for writing this review which may seem odd is because of the valets. They were so helpful and courteous after trying to get a cab and being put on hold for twenty minutes! They went completely out of their way and helped me download and use uber to get home safe. It was a busy Friday night and they didn't have to help but they did! Dinner was good but service was courteous and appreciated!

We recently ate here (Cottonwood) and were not impressed. We were regulars at the Market Street Broiler (by The U) where food and service were excellent. We will not return to the Cottonwood location.

Threw a private party for 40 downstairs. it was nice and private with beautiful patio but the place is getting dated with old pains and track lighting. Dinner was way off with Chewy prime rib, cold halibut and dry chocolate cake. The sourdough bread and the clam chowder were amazing and saved them from a single star review.

After going to Market Street for my birthday last month and subjected to horrible service failures we decided to try it again hoping that it was a fluke. We've eaten there many times before and had decent service and good food. This time service was better.. However for a restaurant of this caliber the service was still subpar. We sat at the bar and were constantly passed by wait staff with empty water glasses. Our food sat under the warming lights that were in direct sight of the counter for nearly 15 minutes. My wife very specifically asked for 3 potatoes because the 2 she got last month seemed on the small side. Her dinner was delivered by a separate waitress with two potatoes. Perhaps not a big deal in of itself but when we asked her to grab another she said that she would have to get the original server to do it. Huh. The potato was literally 3 feet away. She walked 60 feet just to tell the other guy. We finished our dinner and after 3-4 minutes of empty water and waiting for someone to clear the plates I pushed the plate to the edge of the counter sideways with both silverware inside the dish. The waitress who brought us the food actually came to the counter right in front of us. Made eye contact and then walked away. We waited another 5 minutes before the food was removed. After the original waiter brought us our bill we asked that he add a chocolate cake to go for my daughter. Yeah, the one that 20 feet away on the wall was being advertised for $3.99. When he brought back the revised bill it was $7.90. Huh? I pointed out to the server the sign and he said he would take care of it. Instead of bringing me back an adjusted bill the manager came over and in a very condescending manner tried to tell us that the restaurant price was different than the counter price. I told him I'm willing to pay for good service but not a 100% markup over the same item 20 feet away. He did offer to take it off at that point but was being very condescending by trying to somehow get us to agree that his explanation was ok before he did so. That somehow he was doing us a favor. To the manager: I'm sorry but you did me no favors. I gave you the cake back and you acted surprised that somehow I didn't understand what you were offering. I understood correctly. I also understood the tone and demeanor that somehow I was too stupid to understand a 100% markup on cake from your own counter. Food alone does not a restaurant make. In the end you made a serviceable experience another service failure.

I have to say, when my godmother-in-law picked Market Street for lunch today, I was pretty bummed out. I am a vegetarian and there has never been anything for me here. Even the Bloody Mary has shrimp in it! Samuel was our server and he was excellent. I tried to order a Cobb salad without the seafood, but he recommended a Louie salad that had even more veggies and said the pricing would be better since they can't charge less for the Cobb minus the meat. And the Louie salad was really good! Throughout our entire lunch, his sincere service made our experience extremely pleasant. At one point, he brought me a tea refill- with all of the talking we were doing, I'd only had about 1/4 of mine, but he noticed that it looked watered down and wanted to just replace it. After we'd paid, we were standing in the lobby saying goodbye and he approached us to see if we wanted any mints before we left. Super nice guy and really made my Market Street experience significantly better than I expected!

Went here for our anniversary and the service was outstanding. Our waiter was Sean, ask for him, he's great. Was very friendly, fast, and courteous. Our glasses never reached more than half empty, everything asked for was brought quickly. The bread is delicious, the entree I had was mediocre, and the ice cream at the end was the perfect touch. The location is fabulous, tucked away across a walking bridge. Beautiful interior, very quiet, clean, and calm. Enjoyed it very much. The service was better than anywhere I've been before.

Bad service - the waiter seemed very inexperienced. One person in our party ordered a spinach salad - got that wrong. Got the checks wrong. Apps and chowder were good. Cioppino was terrible - shrimp in it were horribly overcooked. Don't waste your money. Very pricey - and not at all worth it. Too many other great options in SLC.

I was here back in November 2013 on a business trip. Not impressed with the food at all. In fact, my boss and I are back in town today and we ordered room service instead of the thought of going out anywhere, least of all returning to this place.

We visited this place last night to celebrate our parents 50th, we had reservations for 10 of us. The waiter had to many tables, but he still seemed very slow. We all had soup and he brought 9 of them out at once the 10 one took 10 more minutes. Two people in our group ordered prime rib, medium, we'll they got them zero pink meat, waiter brought out two more with more juice, but still no pink meat. Tough and chewy. Another person ordered lobster tail and it was cold, needless to say for the amount of money they charge the service and quality did not match.

Don't get mussels from the market. I planned on making a wonderful Portuguese style smoked oysters for dinner. Figured this would be the best place to get mussels. Boy was I wrong. 51 of the 73 that I bought of the 'Fresh Mussels' were dead. I didn't call them to complain as it only set me back 10.00. However, I won't be going back. Didn't have enough to make dinner so I went to whole foods and only paid 1.00 more per pound and they were beautiful! I won't be going back to a place that would actually sell me that many dead mussels. The fish monger should have apologized and got a fresher batch for me. If they are that relaxed about selling someone a whole batch of dead seafood, I wonder how 'fresh' the food in the restaurant is...

Slow bartenders with attitudes get trashed in my reviews. If I eat at the bar I want decent service otherwise don't serve food at the bar. This is the spot for the train wreck barfly cougars to hang out on Friday night talking about the MLM (multi level marketing) deal they just got in. Grossly overpriced!! (and I am not a cheap ass)

We frequent market street about every 6 weeks. We love it here. We've never had a terrible server. It's really one of the only places in Salt Lake that we'll eat seafood at. The chowder is our favorite! As well as the crab stuffed mushrooms. The filet, crab & halibut are all delicious!

I guess it has changed hands. What a disappointment. I have taken cab rides from the airport to get some chowder, but they thought it would be a good idea to water it down. I have been so disappointed in the last two meals. Boo!

Boo!!! I was having a great time, our waiter was great, but then the cedar plank of salmon (which i was very much looking forward to) came back raw! Not once, but TWICE!!! The waiter was great but the manager was mediocre in her empathy and I really think SHE thought she did me a favor by not charging me for my fish. Seriously? Maybe care a little more next time and temp the fish yourself before serving raw salmon. It's a sad waste of fish and my night.

Ordered shrimp stir fry dinner. It started with a very modest salad made with ice lettuce and cherry tomatoes. While the dressing was nice, the salad was boring. The stir fry came. It was served without noodles or rice (not my preference, but that's just me). It had fresh broccoli, sweet peas, spinach and some decent sized shrimp that appeared to be fresh. My gripe? It was bland. There was very little flavour to the meal. When the waitress asked how my meal was, I said it had less flavour than I was expecting. She said "ohhh......", smiled nervously, then walked away. Overpriced and very average experience.

Utah just can't get a good seafood restaurant! Market Street is overpriced and very disappointing.

I can honestly say that this was my worst and most expensive meal in Utah in recent memory. The service: HORRIBLE! After taking our order our server, Remington, showed up at our table every 30 minutes or so and we were his ONLY table. I didn't get a refill on my water until after my meal was complete and having asked multiple times. Why are there tons of bus boys and servers standing around instead of filling water glasses? I would have complained to the manager but I'm sure that wouldn't have done any good as he was was part of the problem spending all his time up front chatting up the pretty hostess and my waiter who should have been at my table. I had to remind him that my salad was supposed to come with my meal, and was completely done with my meal by time the salad came out. Did he offer to cover the cost of the salad? Nope. I counted how many time another waiter showed up to a nearby table for every time Remington showed up to ours...it was like 6:1!!!!!! The food: For this kind of money I expect the food to be amazing! The artichoke dip...bland. The steak? Juicy but very salty? Everything was covered with tons and tons of salt! My wife had the trout and didn't finish it. This is a first for her anywhere. I can honestly say that I will never come here again unless someone else is paying, and only then reluctantly! This restaurant needs a serious attitude adjustment from its food to its service.

Hit and Miss. Perhaps Wednesday is not the night to go to Market Street. We eat here regularly and it has always been hit and miss. The featured Lobster Boil was cooked to death. I usually pass on any "seafood boil" for this very reason and I should have known better. The puny lobster was so tough and dry that I couldn't force myself to eat it. Note to kitchen...a lobster boil does not mean boil it forever....you must abide by the recommended cooking times for great seafood. The shrimps were good, sweet and moist. Passed on the corn and the potato. Where did they find such tiny mussels...Millcreek? The wild salmon on a plank was overlooked and dried out too. Wild salmon has a much lower fat content so it must be cooked accordingly...another disappointment. Will we be back? Yes, but we are ready to give up.

The food is always top notch here. Unfortunately, I had the displeasure of having a terrible server and when I spoke with the manager he was completely standoffish. Very unfortunate. So much so I just cannot give my experience anything but a one star. Unless you have an extra hour or two so you can wait on the server, best to just avoid.

I am not wrong often but this is one time that I have to admit I was wrong. I didnt want to come here because it broke my cardinal rule: dont eat seafood in a state that doesnt touch the water. But I was working in the building next door and my co-workers wanted to come so I came. They have a great happy hour: 1/2 priced apps. All day and night monday, 1/2 price oysters. The service is topnotch. Top to bottom, i love this place and I will come here everytime i am in SLC.

Had the Oysters and crabcakes as a starter. steak and crab leg for the main course. Food was delicious and the service was spot on! Bring friends and enjoy.

Market Street used to be one of our very favorite places. Everything was perfect every time; the service, the food, the ambiance, everything. Then one day, it all changed. I ordered my usual dish (the halibut) and noticed it was cooked differently. When I asked the waiter about it, he said that they had switched from frozen to fresh, and apparently some people find the fresher fish "slimier." Whatevs. Well, not only was it slimier, but it was cooked differently. There used to be some sort of coating on the fish, like an egg batter, and suddenly now it's just broiled with very little (if any) seasoning. No taste + slimy consistency= not good. Well tonight we went back o give it another shot after a few less than stellar Market Street experiences. Not wanting to be disappointed with the halibut situation, I ordered the halibut fish and chips. How wrong can you go something deep fried? To my surprise, it was prepared the exact way the halibut USED to be before the change! But instead of one big piece of fish, it was four small ones, with the egg batter. Ironically, I was looking forward to a nice piece of deep fried fish (what you think of when you order fish and chips). So as far as I can tell, they've done away with their real fish and chips, and if you order fish and chips you'll get what used to be the signature halibut. If you order the regular halibut, you'll get a bland, unseasoned piece of baked or broiled fish with absolutely zero flavor. About our experience tonight. After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes until we even got water. My husband and I kept looking around, wondering if the server actually knew he had a people waiting in his section. To his credit, the place was packed, but an acknowledgement would have been nice. When he brought water, we went ahead and ordered since we'd been there for at least 10 minutes (this after waiting 30 to get seated). I ordered the aforementioned fish and chips, and my husband ordered steak and king crab legs with garlic mashed potatoes. Oh, and a mushroom crab appetizer. And a Coke. Okay, the appetizer never EVER came. He brought bread, then salad (he actually mistakenly brought clam chowder, but we had ordered salad so he went and switched it out). We thought, hmmm...that's odd, the appetizer will surely be coming soon. 10 minutes. 20 minutes. 30 minutes. Nothing. Then our meal came. So I guess he forgot about the appetizer. Luckily he didn't charge us for it. The Coke was completely flat--tasted like it had been sitting in a pitcher for 3 hours. The "well-done" steak was pink. The garlic mashed potatoes had a thin layer of skin on it--like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour. My fish and chips left a lot to be desired (see previous paragraph). We considered ordering the strawberry shortcake for dessert, but when he finally came around again, we had to leave to get home to our kids and the babysitter so we just paid. He didn't ask if we wanted dessert anyway. So, I don't know what happened to the Market Street I used to know and love. Everything used to be perfect, and now suddenly everything is wrong. And it has been consistently wrong for the past 3-4 visits. I think we are done!

The only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars instead of 4 was because of the slow service at the beginning of my experience. Besides that, everything was pretty great. This place is huge. I sat in a booth around the raw oyster bar area. Our server was extremely well versed in the menu and had a lot of great recommendations when it came to the fresh fish. Turns out, he's been working for the company for 10 years. So, he knows he stuff as he should. Took him almost 3 visits to finally spit out what the specials were. But, he did a great job taking care of us once our appetizer orders were in. For appetizers, we had the crab and spinach dip which had lump crab meat in it. The chips that came with it were lacking in the taste department. I would have preferred small pieces of a toasted baguette, but you can't always get what you want, can ya?! It was very delicious, regardless. We also had the fried calamari, which was fried with the perfect amount of batter. But, in my opinion, most fried calamari is the same. With my entree I had the choice of soup or salad, so I went with the clam chowder. It was phenomenal. I slurped up the whole bowl. Last, but not least, based on the recommendation from our server, I went with the Ahi Tuna. I ate the entire plate, only leaving the wasabi behind. They were delicious tuna steaks, slightly seared with a pepper type of rub. Came with white rice and 3 huge stalks of asparagus. I'm talking girth, baby. So, all in all, it was good. And I left full and satisfied.

Nope. When I went to the downtown location a few years back it was great and I was so excited to come to this location with my co workers. But to say the least I was so disappointed. My husband had never been here and heard from me how great it was so he was surprised when he was so disappointed too. we got the prime rib and he got the chowder and I got a salad. The meat was dry and bland. The soup didnt have much flavor. It is just not worth your money or time. They are way too expensive to suck so bad. And our server was so extremely rude and disrespectful. It was ridiculous.

  • Steve T.

Way over rated. Terrible service. Server rarely showed up to refill drinks and had to wait way to long to receive final bill. Clam chowder is runny with huge chunks of celery and only a clam or two. Halibut served cold and only 3 or 4 oz. way overpriced menu. Never again.

Stopped here for a meeting in which food items were served. Attentive staff - decent house red wine. Teriyaki skewers - a bit salty. Chocolate brownie drizzeled in caramel - nice! Good lemon bars. Loved that the food was outside, on patio, doors open created a nice flow.

Please save yourself time and money by not going here. The wait was 45 minutes longer than we were told. We were seated and a waitress didn't show up for 5 minutes. The food tasted and looked awful. The best thing was my sisters grilled cheese off the kids menu. I asked for 50% off our bill and they honored that, so if you decide to eat here and hate it, ask for a discount!!

The only thing worth getting here is the chowder which is excellent. Otherwise... pass. Its a sad thing... I've been going to Market Street downtown since I was a kid and this location since it opened. In nearly 30 years, about the only thing they've changed on their menu are the prices. Market street has been on steady decline for several years now. At this point its become and overpriced venue with marginal food quality. The last 3 times we've hit Market Street, the service has been awful as well. Its a stressful environment and you can read it on the staff's faces: They are woefully under-trained and not well supported. You can find better seafood that is prepared with greater care elsewhere.

Wish I could take my server elsewhere. He was awesome and very accommodating to my family. Too bad the food was so..... meh. That's the only way I can explain it. My crab leg was particularly pathetic. For 34 bucks I'd expect something on the larger side. Especially when they're selling it by the piece instead of weight. What I got was less impressive than what they have in the sale case at Fresh Market. Very disappointing! My kids meals were OK. But, how can you screw that up? MIL and Wifey got the fillet and lobster. I'd say the only difference from theirs and what we'd just had at Longhorn was that their lobster was grilled rather than steamed. I guess people are dumb enough to go for it because they are obviously still in business and still raising their prices. I'll have to take my business elsewhere. Soo sad....I had my wedding rehearsal diner at the place!

Fresh seafood options, great date ambiance. Raw bar is impressive and chock full of options which I'm told change quite frequently. Ordered the surf and turf, filet and Chilean sea bass-filet was good, closer to 4 oz than 6 as advertised. Fish? M'eh. Thin and gummy. Should have gone for the lobsta'...live and learn. Overall, nice downtown dining option for out of towners looking to experience local fare.

If there was a negative star, this place would get it from me ( I have never given one this low in 100+ reviews) Not because its the worst service, overpriced, and average food at best. But because it used to be a well run, good food and busy fun place to go. Whatever new ownership or management they have now has killed it. Service can be painful, the food is average and changed in quality dramatically and the prices have gone way up. It is easy to understand why this place went from 1-2 hour waits most nights to a ghost town...too bad

It's been a while since I've eaten at Market Street...and now I now why. The food is mediocre at best. My wife's Ahi Tuna was overcooked and my Cioppino was meh. Service was not great. The server brought one one of party's dessert - she ordered the prix fixe- before everyone else had finished their main course. That's just one example. Definitely not going back if I can help it.

We went to dinner here on Memorial Day, and to start off the disastrous evening, the hostess was a total b**tch. Our server was not much nicer. She was very rude to my 8 year-old granddaughter who asked for the spaghetti, which was clearly listed on the children's menu, but "no longer available, and hasn't been for a long time." No clams in the clam chowder; not kidding, not one. Alaskan Snow crab cocktail ($16.99) was totally blah, no flavor and had probably been frozen for months. My 86 year-old mother had to walk down three flights of stairs to get to the restroom. Not cool. Yet they have something like 4 handicapped spaces in the parking lot? So, you can dine here if you're disabled, but you'd better pee before you leave home? The Creme Brulee was $9, Really? Nine dollars for dessert? By the way, this was our third choice of restaurant because our first two choices were closed for the holiday. I've been going to Gastronomy restaurants for 30 years, and even worked for one in college, but I won't go again. Ever. Plenty of good, new choices in SLC.

Market Street Grill is my frenemy. I can't help but LOVE it. I have a passion for seafood. Fresh seafood. And I have a deep appreciation for well-mixed cocktails. So in my eyes, Market Street is pure and flawless perfection (I'm pretty sure all three of those words are synonyms but that's fine.) Here is my very predictable order: 1/2 lb of Jumbo Shrimp with a side of Clam Chowder and a Bling Bling to drink (maybe two... don't judge!) The Bling Bling is one of their most popular cocktails. Perhaps because it comes with fresh crushed raspberries! And don't be afraid men... it's not too sweet or too girly. The only problem is I love it soooo much that I am drawn to it like a bug to a light... despite how much I end up spending there. Usually I save my expensive taste for special occasions but for some reason Market Street has a bad effect on me. It puts me in a state of complete denial. I either pretend that I have enough money to eat there often or that it doesn't really cost that much. Either way, I end up ignoring my bank account and eating my way to happiness.

I believe it is time for the owners of thisMarket Street Grill chain to hand the business off to true professionals who really care about food quality and quality service. I won't go into lengthy detail of disappointing experiences - too many! After my last visit, tonight, I will not return to these restaurants again. The five-star reviews are from people who have no idea of their continued downhill slide...think of Market Street Broiler. The 1, 2 and 3 stars tell the true story of this overrated business-and the poor reviews have continued for years!

If it wasn't for the chowder this hole would have gotten a zero. One refill on my drink really! I need something to wash this over priced garbage down. I hate giving bad reviews however, I will not return.

  • Barbara H.

to Russel r. I might agree with parts of your review, but you sound a little like a whiner...You don't get the same prices when you order at the restaurant vs. at the counter, for obvious reasons. We do this all the time, we pay our restaurant bill, then we walk ourselves over to the counter and get the dessert to go for the posted price...to take away stars for this reason is not fair. Now back to the food reviewing, this place is a hit and miss restaurant. The seared ahi with ginger sauce is excellent, (that's my standard dish I get there) but most of the more delicate fish ends up being overcooked and over seasoned. They tend to do too much to some of the fish dishes, therefore muddling the flavors and making everything too rich and fatty. Some dishes taste "fishy". The salads are good, the soup is good, but the sole is awful, and most of the smaller thinner fish too. I never had issues with the servers, and 3 or 4 minutes between water refills seems ok to me...of course when we go there we are never in a rush and really don't care how long they take to serve us.

Met some friends Friday night at the oyster bar at the Cottonwoods location. The most positive part of our experience was our server, Scott, who is incredibly personable. We have coming to Market Street for years and are dismayed at some of the changes, most importantly being the food and the prices paid. We very much enjoyed the happy hour menu in the oyster bar which was summarily cancelled last fall. That event alone drastically reduced the frequency of our visits. The early bird special has now gotten out of hand with an increase in price over the years from $14.95 to now $19.95 for the halibut fish and chips. There now exists a $5 surcharge for the prime rib "early bird" and it is not so special. Tough, ill seasoned and rather disappointing for a much higher price. The bowl of clam chowder, a past staple, was recently increased to $6.49 from $4.99, a 30% increase just this year. I was unaware that clams were in such short supply. We ordered the fried seafood "sampler" and should have been tipped off by the name. Two halibut pieces(now featuring a panko breaking instead of the old reliable and much better beer batter), two thumb nail sized crab balls and 4 smaller than expected fried shrimp. We were still hungry afterwards. The profit margin on this plate alone ($25.99) more than covered the server's minimum wage for the evening. We continue to be disappointed in the digression this restaurant has taken.

For the amount of money they charge for something so simple as a salad, you would think they would make it the way it says on the menu. When my crab and shrimp salad was missing every vegetable and had the wrong type of lettuce, the manager pointed out on the menu that the salad I wanted didn't include any other ingredients. I showed her where it doesn't indicate that on the menu (and server never mentioned it) and she had the gall to suggest another more expensive salad. I ended up with the cheaper Bay Shrimp salad, which I think must be canned shrimp. It wasn't very good and made me lose my appetite. I'm glad to be flying home to Florida where seafood is done right almost always. Market Street really needs to reconsider if they want to be a fine dining establishment. If so, they have a little work to do across the board. By the way, the right way to handle this would be to re-use the crab and shrimp from the previous salad so as not to waste it.

weve probably been to mkt. st. 100 times over the past 12 years..the service is usually what brings us back..but the main reason is ..there is no competition...the Utah boys club (legislature) assures that ! even a chain like Pappadeuxs/ Landry's..or better Bone Fish Grill..would take all but the old timers ..or habitual dinners like us. eat the cold stuff..the chowder gets old ..its always the same and the entrees will be OK 1 of 5 times Sorry...not even the charming and mostly attentive waiters can save this terrible food. Not even the cold salads are palatable. I am not sure what happened...we were 20 to 25 times a year at The Cottonwood location...Im not sure we will ever go back....the food is tasteless!

Ok let's get something straight right out the door. I live in South Florida...best seafood in "Merica" lol in my opinion. Wasn't to keen on going to a place in SLC where they served seafood. To my surprise it was pretty damn good. I went with my co worker for a quiet evening away from our other co workers and it was perfect. The food was delicious and Justin our server was on point. Very attentive and never bothered us unless it was to ask us if we needed anything. I speak for my co worker when I say job well done. We had some oysters, cedar plank salmon and the trout with a couple glasses of wine. Major props!

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the steaks were overcooked. This was our anniversary dinner & the food was great, minus the steaks. Were ordered medium well, came out well done & a bit tough. Everything else was great! I think I had the best service in a restaurant yet. Best calamari & clam chowder in town! Sourdough bread is great too. A bit pricey, but good.

Wow! All you have to do anymore is drop a few words like "sh*t," "d*mn" and "Utah Sucks" into your review and it becomes funny, useful and cool?? I guess our standards have become extremely low in the brave new world of "Jersey Shore." If Utah sucks so bad... then don't come here... or better yet... LEAVE! Stay in that over-crowded, over-regulated, overpriced, bankrupt fog-hole and enjoy the million-dollar, 250 sq. ft. closet in which you live. Oh wait... this review is about Market Street. You'll find really fresh seafood, excellent clam chowder, bland side dishes and mediocre-at-best steaks. Make no mistake, Market Street is about seafood. Stay away from the other side of the menu or go somewhere else if you want a top chop or anything else that lives on the turf. The service has been 4-5 stars every time I've eaten here. The fish and lobster are always fresh and well-prepared and the salads are awesome! I'd give Market Street 4 stars, but the side dishes and the steaks bring it down a full star.

We've been going to market street for brunch for years. Service has never been their strong point, and it certainly didn't impress anyone at our table this time! The food, however, is normally very good. One of our favorite parts of brunch are the orange glazed cinnamon rolls. This time, they weren't as fresh as normal, and certainly smaller than in the past. Our eggs Benedict was mediocre at best. One of my eggs was under cooked while the other was over cooked. It wasn't bad enough to complain, but not great either.

Horrible lunch from start to finish. It was a very quiet snowy day. It started with a drink order that took almost 15 minutes to get. The waiter came back and said sorry but the bartender didn't see his ticket, for real? Our chowder was offered fresh ground pepper. It was ground in huge massive chunks, the kind you might use on the inside of a roasted bird. Our food was not good. The chowder was bland. The fish & chips were dry. They were served with a dried out lemon wedge. Our waiter said "I don't know how those would get on your plate". We had to ask for tarter sauce, none given. The gumbo tasted bland and not fresh. The only good thing about out meal was the sourdough bread. I called ahead and made arrangements with Terri for a large piece of birthday cake to be brought out after our meal, I brought candles that I gave the hostess. We were just half way through our meal and the waiter put the check on the table, seriously? We continued finishing our meal and took some photos, no cake came. This place has really gone down. I remember when the quality and service was all that, not anymore. It has really been low grade for the past 5 years. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

Not bad but not great either. We come him for the clam chowder and sourdough. I've sat down to eat here twice and the first time we ate here was for lunch. It was a very awkward experience because the staff seemed very tense and I could see why. A young busser accidentally dropped a fork off of his tray And the manager right in from of us slammed the fork back on his tray. It was a terrible way to train your staff right on the floor in front of guests. About a minute later another kid bussing the table across from us had the tray on the end of the table and it got too heavy on one side and the entire tray fell and everything broke and created a huge mess. My girlfriend and I were in sheer horror because we kept waiting for that crazy manager to come back and scold the kid. With that said the problems I had were simple things like trying to get a waiter to notice us and then we waited what felt like an eternity for water and lemonade. I drank my water and lemonade and turtle pace because I was afraid might not see another one the whole time I was there. The food finally came out and it was just okay. I don't even remember what I had which is an indication of how average everything was. We were told everything was shipped in from Boston and it was fresh every morning. This is a problem with preparation then because on the east coast the seafood is phenomenal. On a side note I went in one day to get chowder to go and a group of very attractive women were walking out and a cook in plain sight screamed out "god damn" in reference to the girls. That's funny on the Vegas strip but I expected more professionalism from a place like Market Street.

Guess what?! The clam chowder rocks!! Thanks to Kate C. ( yelp.com/biz/market-stre… ) I decided to treat our group to a night out. What an awesome dinner! Located right in Cottonwood Heights off of 3000 E on Cottonwood Pkwy, there's tons of parking & even valet for the lazy (I mean, seriously?!) who don't want to walk 20 feet. Simply put the restaurant is gorgeous. It was easy to make a reservation (on Open Table!!) and the service was decent. (Our server was nice, but spilled water on the table twice & almost spilled sauce from a plate on one of my friends, but he was pretty cool overall.) Our food was delish and everyone was happy with their dishes. I don't think you can go wrong. My bf even got a complimentary cupcake for his birthday, yay! BTW, the complimentary sourdough bread they serve was yummy....and if you can make it for the Early Bird Special (before 7pm or all day Sunday & Monday), you can get either Prime Rib or Salmon for $19.99 with salad/soup & dessert!!! Market Street Grill, I heart you!

Another trip to Market Street for brunch and like usual it was tasty. Sitting on the oyster bar side is always my preference as usual. I don't love the dinner's here but they really do a great job for brunch and breakfast. And even better the food is a really good price. Most items for brunch are under $12 dollars for a full meal. And they have great service with the freshest food options. I would suggest trying out any of the omelets. And if you like seafood do the crab omelet for sure. I went for the pork chops and eggs. The chops were cooked perfectly and I love the market street potatoes every time. I am looking forward to coming back here again.

The location was beautiful, and the service was very good. But the food was just average. My halibut and crab cake was just ok, I think they should cut down on the sauce (or butter?) that's on it. It just felt greasy. The other people I went with felt the food was good, but not spectacular.

This place is so stupid, I hate it. The food was terrible, like upscale dormitory quality. Service is abyssmal, everything takes too long, from your frist drink order to the actual delivery of it ; to the taking of the food order to arrrgh!! waiting for it, and then hells bells, the check and bill payment. All for crap food from a bag, pre-portion, or freezer. Yet the place is very busy. It blows my mind. Never go here, choose somewhere else or kick yourself all meal long. Ridiculously priced for Red Lobster crap.

I am sorry to say that this place is going down hill for me. I will still go for the view or to impress my friends from out of town because of the interior and the classy feelings, but not for the food, the food is just plain. I used to love the clam chowder with sour dough, or the Sunday morning sticky buns, but I think I have outgrown from those these days, too. The service in this location is rarely good. Last time I went in because I just got an email regarding their new lunch and dinner special. Clearly, the waitress knew nothing about it and even questioned me and wanted me to show her the email so she can write down the specials. Later, I can tell that she either has a problem with me knowing the menu better than her or she just didn't care if I would leave her a tip, the attitude/service was just bad. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I had bad service from this location. I am not sure if it's because I didn't "dress up" enough or I didn't acknowledge the waitress/ waiters how "MUCH" I love the food or share enough jokes to make the waitress feel happy and pleased. I know that it's not easy to have seafood in SLC, but seriously, seafood lovers, have you tried their red snappers? Halibut? any fish? They all taste the same, plain.... These days, I usually find myself walk in with great expectation, but walk out feeling empty, full, but empty. One thing that I will still get from this place is their dessert. but I prefer take out now.

Loved Loved Loved the Clam Chowder, best I've ever had. However the Oysters weren't that great. The ambiance was amazing and they had this cute little bridge and waterfall that was pretty romantic. Parking was easy, service was friendly, I'd eat here again for the Chowder alone.

It still amazes you can get good seafood in Salt Lake City. Has anyone pondered this? Middle of the desert, up against some mountains, chowing down on seafood. Anyway, this place is good. I ordered the Fisherman's Platter, which is a collection of fried shrimp, halibut, calamari and halibut. It was good, very tender, and tasted fresh although I'm pretty sure it wasn't sourced locally. For some reason the shrimp, crab and mussel appetizer was also particularly good. I'm not sure if I was just very hungry, but it all was good. The beer battered onion rings are worth checking out as well, and if I had room, I think the chocolate would have been a good catch as well. However, the piece of chocolate was the size of my open hand, and super rich so I had no room left over. If you're looking for some higher end seafood, this is worth a go -

Abysmal, what happened to this place? Back in the day this was THE place to go, I worked there, I rememeber. Not anymore. Overpriced small portions unbelievably dreary, tastless and boring seafood and none of it fresh. Awful. Don't waste your time, you can get better seafood at Red Lobster at much less cost.

after a few visits ambience A- nice service A exceptional. i was pleasantly surprised food B- i hate to say it, but i've had better fish at red lobster. clam chowder the only reason i go to market street grill anymore and, besides the service and ambience, the only reason i'm giving market street 3 stars. cioppino decent, however, inconsistent. sometimes it's too fishy. kind of like they're using less than fresh fish, because the sauce will mask the taste. mixed seafood marinara same as cioppino, except not even decent. my bad for ordering a dish called 'mixed seafood marinara'. grilled halibut tasteless. and i'm not a lemon on fish kind of person. maybe i'll ask for soy sauce next time.

An old favorite who seems on a steady downhill slide in quality, while pushing upper limits in pricing. Miniscule portions...zero presentation... and an inexperienced and poorly informed service staff. $70 for two king crab legs that were neither large nor generous. Not horrible...just not as good as it used to be.

Had a business dinner here the other night and liked, but didn't love, it. The decor is very nice, modern, and urban. The service was good. However, our waitress up-sold us into appetizers before we figured out that dinner came with soup or salad, which was irritating. The menu is both steakhouse and seafood house with strong offerings on both sides. I think that's because they run an oyster house next door, but that's fine with me. I liked being able to order from both sides of the menu. My main problem was the food was a 3-star experience in an otherwise 4-star place. My steak was unremarkable. I doubt it was USDA prime, though I can't say that the menu said it would be. Nice atmosphere and service. OK food.

Food was ok. Had a seafood cobb salad and my girl had the chipino. The chipino was pretty gross but the seafood in it was good. The salad was decent. Both dishes were aout $22. No where near that price. The mexican shrimp cocktail was good but at $11 I would pass. Dessert was another strange thing. I had a piece of the almond rasberry torte which was excellent. My girl had cream bruelee. The custard of the creme bruelee wasn't sweetened at all. The berries and a little sugary on top was the only sweetness. It tasted like a eggy fatty custard. Worst creme bruelee I've ever had. I've never had one with unsweetened cream. I think it may have been a kitchen mistake. Only reason I went was my boss gave me a $60 gift card. Lunch came out to $90 and even paying $30 out of my own pocket I would say it was barely worth that.

I've been here many many times over the years. Its a classic place to go in UT for most parent related "going out" ordeals. To clarify, its a great place to take one's own parents if you're 20 something and not rolling in cash. It maintains a classy and nicer feel but isn't $40 a plate. They also have a full bar, which is always a plus for my fam. In terms of food: 1. I find it odd that the fish here is consistently boring and fishy or drenched in sauce. When you actually buy the fish from their market area its usually pretty good stuff. However, when you order fish you tend to receive questionably fresh fish. 2. The clam chowder is still amazing after all these years. At every location. Its probably from costco with an extra stick of butter but I still love it. 3. Service is usually above average. Thats it. All in all I still consider it a great place to take your elders, makes you look good without breaking the bank. Without that subtle perk this place would be getting a 3 star. Just warning you Mkt St.....

We loved the Market Street Grill at Cottonwood, especially for Sunday Brunch, we have a frequent diners card and everything. Our last three times to this restaurant have been bad. One bad meal = bad night, two bad meals = a trend?, three bad meals = the restaurant has issues. The last time was for a friends birthday. Our drinks were 25 minutes getting to the table (bar was backed up). When the dinners finally arrived three out of four entrees were wrong - Mashed potatoes with string beans became boiled potatoes and asparagus, Ahi tuna without anything except wasabi and soy became Ahi tuna drenched in ginger sauce, no wasabi or soy. We ordered a second round of drinks and were told the bar was all caught up now.... Drinks never came. When the check was presented it was "oh, do you still want those drinks?". Same thing at Brunch the week before, runny eggs taken back never to appear again, wrong omelet served, bacon limp and greasy, coffee had to be asked for each time. Great atmosphere, used to be good food and service. I won't be back soon if ever.

I've got a mixed opinion on this one. Mostly positive though. Let's start with the real reason anyone goes anywhere: Food. Although inland seafood really can't be compared to anything you could get on the coast, it was actually surprisingly good! Much better than Red Lobster...but what isn't really. I got the Alaskan Salmon and thought it was delicious! Just enough flavor (but maybe it's just my so-called "unadventurous" Utah palate talking, haha). I'm a clam chowder junkie! I order c.c. basically wherever I go that sells it. I've had some god-awful chowder and I've had some life-altering chowder. Market Street's cc is definitely in the top 10. Maybe even top 5, but I can't say for sure because I was really hungry that day. Word to the wise: don't order the crab-stuffed mushrooms. They're WAY too bland for my taste. But crab is kinda bland and I'm more of a lobster person anyway. The dessert was good but not great...I'm picky when it comes to things like that. I have a very refined palate for sugars and baked goods. And bread. Not to change the topic, but Market Street's bread is at the very best sub-par. But people generally don't eat at seafood restaurants in search of good bread, so whatever. Next up: Service Our server was awesome! Very friendly and knowledgeable. Sometimes she came around too often, but I'm the kind of person who would prefer the food just to appear on the table rather than venture out of my anti-social bubble and converse with a human person. But she made the experience all worthwhile, so I definitely recommend. Numbah 3: Prices Overpriced. I'm a bit on the cheap side and no food in my opinion is really worth spending more than $10 a plate. But if I weren't a victim of what my husband calls "poor-kid syndrome" I'd probably be 100% comfortable with Market Street's prices.

I have to agree somewhat with the other post from a SF native. I am originally from SF, and relocated to Utah (temporarily!) just recently. I don't think Market Grill could make it out of Utah either, but for Utah, while in search anything remotely fresh, I was really pleasantly surprised at how fresh the fish was on the day I went there. Had the Seabass and it was terrific. Don't really remember anything else special about the place, service was average, sides average...but you can tell the seafood is fresh..and for me that;s the point. I often go to their market to buy seafood to bring home now too.

Second time to eat at the Market STreet Gill in the SLC airport. Food still good but the service is marginal. Waited almost 10 minutes for some sweetener. Will come back but look for different waitress.

When I first stepped in I was pretty excited, the place was bustling with happy patrons and the restaurant itself was bright, shiny, and clean. It was a perfect setting for a seafood restaurant - a mix between a fresh seafood stand and a restaurant. We did the call ahead seating which still put us at a 20 minute wait so we opted to sit at the bar. The service always seems faster at the bar since the waiter is at your disposal the entire time. The menu was very vast and everything looked delicious. They were having a couple specials which my boyfriend and I both chose - he the prime rib and I the halibut. Everything was just decent. I didn't particularly enjoy my halibut because it was completely cooked and drenched in hardcore butter. All I could taste was butter and not the fish itself. We also had the oysters which were very tasty. The special came with a salad and a dessert (just ice cream or a cupcake) but it was a good deal for 19.99. I wasn't particularly unhappy or happy with this place but I know I won't be coming back. For the cost it really wasn't worth it. Tip: Maybe I chose wrong but the raw seafood looked amazing and if I could rewind time I'd go with the cioppino, I just couldn't bring myself to order such hot soup when it was so warm out!

My husband and I have been here twice now. Both times we really loved the atmosphere and service. The food was good. I can't say that it was BETTER than the fish I've had at Chili's or Red Lobster. The variety was certainly better. I tried the stealhead fish special, and it was tastey, but like I said, not mind-blowing. The clam chowder was great. The au gratin potatoes were actually my favorite part. We spent about $60 at lunch time, with an appetizer and our two meals that came with soup/salad., and drinks. The high class, clean, bright atmosphere combined with subtle nautical themes was very pleasant. But I'm not sure overall it's worth $60+ dollars... We probably will go back there if we are going with a group and everyone else wants to go. But not by ourselves.

Good food and service. I had the seafood Cobb salad but my associates had a variety of food and they enjoyed it as well. If your in Salt Lake this is a good place to eat. As a NYC girl - the walk across the drawbridge over the pond was good enough for me. I was SOLD! Stop on by - tell them Kimberley sent you.

I don't mean to sound like a prejudiced food prick, but something was definitely off-kilter about our experience at Market Street Grill. Now I don't want to make this into a San Francisco vs. Salt Lake City kind of review (mainly because there is absolutely NO comparison). But I hope my unique background and intimate knowledge of both cities will shed some enlightenment. Before the Market Street machine came to Utah, very few places took the time or expense to fly out fresh ingredients. I have to hand it to Gastronomy Inc. for at least introducing Utahns to the concept of seafood that hasn't first been frozen into a block of ice. What I'm trying to figure out is if Gastronomy Inc. prepares the food poorly on purpose, or if they are just catering to the palate of the average Utahn. That's right folks, the average Utahn does not have an adventurous palate. If you're offended by that statement, then tough shit. This is the only explanation I can come up with to explain why Market Street will take a perfectly good piece of ahi tuna and overcook the shit out of it when I specifically ask them to leave it rare. How else can you explain why the broth they use to steam the mussels is so goddamned bland... did they forget to add white wine to the stock or did they deliberately leave it out to accommodate Utah sensibilities? In my book, you either cook it right or don't cook at all. This is why Gastronomy Inc. will never make it out of Salt Lake. Whatever the case, it goes to show that even with good ingredients, you can still screw things up. Stay tuned for my next lesson: Why Utah service is at least 30 years behind the rest of civilized culture.

This place has better sea food than many places I've been to on the East Coast. I don't know how they do it, but it's great. The atmosphere is great too.

We arrived at the peak of the dinner rush, our service was good but the waitress was a bit "mechanical". Like she couldn't wait to get all our plates off her tray no matter how full she crowded the table. One reason I didn't order the early bird special was because I didn't want dessert which automatically is included. But when it got to dessert she pointed out that I was the one who didn't get any - but she would throw in an extra spoon!? The food was prepared well, everyone enjoyed the meal. The seafood was fresh and tasty. We would go there again.
